Spray Foam Insulation in Garland, TX

Garland developed rapidly from the late 1950s through the 1980s, filling in the northeastern edge of Dallas County with tract homes and subdivisions that are now 40 to 65 years old. The Firewheel area on the eastern side of the city is the exception — communities around Firewheel Town Center were built in the early 2000s and have a different insulation profile. But the majority of Garland's housing stock predates 1990, and in that era, insulation was routinely installed at R-11 to R-19 in the attic. Most of it has never been upgraded.

What Decades of North Texas Heat Do to Attic Insulation

A Garland attic with original 1975 fiberglass batts has been through 50 North Texas summers. The air pocket structure that gives fiberglass its R-value compresses over time. Multiple roof repairs and replacements — most Garland homes have had two or three roofs — disturb the insulation each time. HVAC replacements and the normal humidity swings of a North Texas attic do the rest. What was installed as R-19 in 1975 is often performing at R-10 or lower today. The AC runs to make up the difference, and the bills reflect it.

Lake Ray Hubbard and Humidity

Eastern Garland neighborhoods near Lake Ray Hubbard face elevated summer humidity from the lake. Fiberglass batts that absorb moisture from humid air lose R-value and are more susceptible to mold. In homes within two to three miles of the lake, we often recommend spray foam over blown-in because spray foam resists moisture absorption. Closed-cell foam also acts as a vapor barrier, which addresses the humidity infiltration problem that accelerates insulation degradation in lake-adjacent attics.

Garland is about 35 minutes from our Frisco base via the President George Bush Turnpike. We schedule Garland jobs regularly — it is a large city with a significant concentration of homes in the older housing stock categories where insulation upgrades have the most impact. Same-week assessment and installation scheduling is standard for most Garland jobs.
